What is “everythingtoexcess”?
Well, aside from being sort of my family motto, it is the name of my recording studio. I’ve been fortunate to work with some amazing people in different recording situations and I have learned a ton from all of them. I have recorded a number of excellent artists over the years and, while I don’t focus on that part of the business anymore, the studio and I are still available for hire.
My studio elevates function over fashion. It is budget-conscious, but I’ve also been very lucky to have some amazing equipment come to me within that budget. I run Pro Tools on a custom-built PC. I feel like I stand alone in a Mac world there, but ten years ago Pinnacle recorded a 28-minute song on close to 50 tracks with plugins on most of them and it never let us down once. The computer has been upgraded significantly since then. I have 32 simultaneous inputs through a Behringer X32 and S16. This system enables me to do up to 8 different mono monitor mixes for headphones, and a wireless network allows individual control of each mix. It is far from traditional, but it works extremely well. I’ve accumulated a reasonable collection of microphones, keyboards, guitars, and basses for use, also. I have a Roland VG kit for rehearsals and writing.
